Pratipada

Pratipada marks the beginning of each fortnight. Chaitra Shukla Pratipada — the first day after the new moon in Chaitra — is the Hindu New Year according to the Vikram Samvat calendar. It coincides with Ugadi (Andhra, Telangana, Karnataka), Gudi Padwa (Maharashtra), and Nav Samvatsar (North India). The day after Diwali (Kartik Shukla Pratipada) is Govardhan Puja — celebrating Krishna's feat of lifting the Govardhan mountain. The day after Holi (Chaitra Krishna Pratipada) is celebrated as Dhuleti (color play).

1. 1On Ugadi/Gudi Padwa: prepare and eat Ugadi Pachadi (6-taste chutney of new tamarind, raw mango, neem, jaggery, salt, pepper)
2. 2Erect a Gudi (bamboo pole with new silk cloth, neem, mango leaves, and sugar crystals) at the entrance
3. 3On Govardhan Puja: prepare Annakut (mountain of food offerings) to Krishna; perform Govardhan Parikrama if possible
