Panchami
Panchami is the 5th tithi. Shukla Panchami in Magha (January) is Vasant Panchami — Saraswati's birthday. Shukla Panchami in Shravana is Nag Panchami — the day of serpent worship. Both are among the most widely observed special Panchami days.
Significance of Panchami
The 5th tithi is associated with Mercury (Budha) in Vedic numerology — the planet of intellect, speech, and learning. Saraswati, goddess of knowledge and the arts, is naturally worshipped on Panchami. Nag Panchami (Shravana Shukla Panchami) is a separate tradition: serpents are worshipped as symbols of Shiva's power and Ketu's wisdom. Milk is offered to live or clay snakes at temples. Nag Panchami remedies Rahu-Ketu afflictions and Kaal Sarp Dosha.
What to Do on Panchami
- • Saraswati puja (Vasant Panchami)
- • Beginning studies or creative projects
- • Nag puja and milk offering (Shravana Panchami)
- • Music and arts practice
- • Agricultural plowing on Nag Panchami (to avoid harming serpents in the earth)

Vedic Astrology & Panchami
Panchami resonates with the 5th house — creativity, romance, children, and intelligence. Mercury (5th house signifier in some systems) is the planet of learning. Saraswati worship on Panchami directly activates 5th house energy for creative and intellectual endeavors.
