> Krishnamurti Paddhati (KP) is a refined Vedic astrology system developed by K.S. Krishnamurti (1908–1972) that uses Placidus house cusps and a Sub-lord theory derived from Vimshottari dasha proportions. In Prashna application, the sub-lord of the relevant house cusp becomes the decisive factor — it either confirms or denies the promise of that house.

K.S. Krishnamurti was a Tamil Nadu astrologer who spent decades correlating chart patterns with real outcomes. He recognized that traditional Parashari analysis gave directional guidance but lacked the precision needed for binary yes/no questions. His response was the sub-lord theory — a method of dividing each nakshatra (13°20' of arc) into nine sub-divisions, each governed by a planet in Vimshottari dasha proportions.

The result was a system where every degree of the zodiac has three layers: the sign lord (rashi lord), the nakshatra lord (star lord), and the sub-lord. In KP analysis, the sub-lord carries the most interpretive weight for determining outcomes.

KP is fully compatible with Vedic (sidereal, Lahiri ayanamsha) zodiac conventions. The only structural departure from classical Parashari is the use of Placidus houses instead of equal or whole-sign houses. This matters because KP relies on precise cusp degrees, which only Placidus (an unequal house system) provides.

Within each nakshatra, the same 9 planets divide the 13°20' arc into sub-portions, using the same Vimshottari year proportions.

For example, if the 7th house cusp falls at 14°30' of Sagittarius:

• Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter (rashi lord)
• 14°30' of Sagittarius falls in the nakshatra Purva Ashadha, ruled by Venus (nakshatra lord / star lord)
• The exact degree 14°30' falls within the sub-division governed by, say, Mercury (sub-lord)

In this case, Mercury is the sub-lord of the 7th cusp. To determine whether marriage happens, analyze Mercury's house significations.

The nakshatra lord channel is the strongest. When you want to know what Mercury (as sub-lord) signifies, the most important step is: find which planets are in Mercury's nakshatras (Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Revati). Those planets' house positions and ownerships become Mercury's primary significations.

Step 1: Record time and location. Note the exact minute the question is understood. Use the astrologer's location. Generate the chart with Placidus cusps and Lahiri ayanamsha.

Step 2: Identify the relevant house. Determine which house governs the querent's question. Career = 10th. Marriage = 7th. Children = 5th. Litigation = 6th. Financial gain = 11th. Health = 1st and 6th. Property = 4th. Foreign travel = 12th and 9th.

Step 3: Note the exact cusp degree of that house. For example, 7th house cusp at 22°15' of Scorpio.

Step 4: Find the sub-lord of that cusp. Using KP tables or software, identify the nakshatra at 22°15' Scorpio and the sub-division within it. The planet governing that sub-division is the sub-lord of the 7th cusp.

Step 5: List the sub-lord's house significations. Follow the four channels described above. Which houses does this planet most strongly connect to?

Step 6: Apply the YES/NO rule. If the sub-lord signifies houses 1, 5, 9, and 11 in relation to the relevant matter — and specifically if the 11th house is among the significations — the answer is YES. If the sub-lord primarily signifies 6, 8, or 12 houses in relation to the matter, the answer is NO.

Step 7: Confirm with Moon's position. The Moon in KP also carries importance. Its nakshatra lord and sub-lord add confirmation to the primary sub-lord analysis.

For job-related questions, the 10th house cusp sub-lord is primary. The sub-lord must signify houses 2 (sustenance), 6 (job/service), 10 (profession), and 11 (income gains) for a positive answer. If it signifies the 12th predominantly, the employment does not materialize or the querent loses the position.

For promotions and salary increases: same 10th cusp sub-lord analysis with emphasis on 11th house signification for the increase in earnings.

For self-employment or business: 7th cusp sub-lord (the business itself as a partnership with the market) and 10th cusp sub-lord together. Both must be favorable.

The 7th house cusp sub-lord determines marriage. The sub-lord must signify houses 2 (family), 7 (spouse), and 11 (fulfillment of desire) for marriage to happen. The 11th house signification is non-negotiable in KP — without it, even a strong 7th house connection does not guarantee marriage in the question period.

If the sub-lord signifies the 6th house = disputes or separation in the relationship. If it signifies the 12th = the relationship exists in secret or the querent moves away from the partner. If it signifies the 8th = the relationship transforms dramatically or faces crisis.

The 5th house cusp sub-lord governs children. It must signify houses 2 (family expansion), 5 (children directly), and 11 (fulfillment). Jupiter's involvement — either as the sub-lord itself or as a significant nakshatra lord in the chain — adds blessing to the outcome.

If the sub-lord is connected to the 8th = miscarriage risk or difficulty. Connected to 12th = the child may be born abroad or the conception does not complete.

The 6th house cusp sub-lord decides the outcome of disputes. If this sub-lord signifies 6 (the dispute process), 11 (victory), and 1 (the querent's strength) = the querent wins. If it signifies 12 (loss or surrender) and 8 (hidden defeat) = the querent loses or settles unfavorably.

Classical Prashna (as in Prashna Marga and BPHS) centers on the Moon's applying aspects, the Lagna's strength, and the relevant house lord's position. It uses qualitative assessment — strong versus weak, benefic versus malefic — to build toward an answer.

KP Prashna adds structural precision. The sub-lord method removes most ambiguity about which planet is "important" — the sub-lord is mathematically fixed. The house signification chain is traceable and verifiable. This is why many modern practitioners prefer KP for Prashna.

That said, both methods can be used together. Read the classical indicators first to get a directional sense. Then confirm or refine with the KP sub-lord. When both agree, the answer is reliable. When they diverge, recheck the sub-lord significations carefully — often a missed signification explains the discrepancy.

One of KP's advantages over classical Prashna is its capacity for more specific timing. In classical Prashna, timing uses the Moon's remaining degrees in its sign (each degree = a unit of time, interpreted as days, weeks, or months depending on context). KP adds:

Transit timing: The answer materializes when a planet transits a stellar position that activates the relevant house significations. Specifically, when a planet moves through the nakshatra of the sub-lord of the relevant cusp, the matter comes to a head.

Dasha-antardasha correlation: KP validates timing through the dasha system. If the question chart's sub-lord analysis says YES, the matter manifests during the dasha-antardasha of the planets that signify the relevant houses.

Ruling planets method: At the moment of the question, the ruling planets — sign lord of the Ascendant, Moon sign lord, Ascendant nakshatra lord, Moon nakshatra lord, and the day lord — form a set of planets that are "active." Events tend to occur when transits or dashas involve these ruling planets.

Suppose someone asks: "Will I get a transfer to the city I want?"

The relevant houses are: 3rd (short journey/relocation within country), 10th (job/employer making the decision), 12th (change of residence/environment), and 11th (fulfillment).

The astrologer finds the 10th house cusp sub-lord. That sub-lord's significations are checked:

• If sub-lord signifies 3, 10, 12, and 11 = YES, the transfer comes
• If sub-lord signifies only 6 and 8 = NO, the request is blocked

The Moon's nakshatra lord is then checked for confirmation. If it also signifies 10, 3, and 11, the answer is confirmed. If it contradicts, re-examine which house significations are stronger.
