Hariyali Teej 2027 — Significance & Celebration
Teej celebrates the reunion of Goddess Parvati with Lord Shiva after years of intense tapasya (penance) to win him as her husband. The word Teej refers to the 3rd tithi (Tritiya) of Shravan month — deep monsoon season, when the earth is lush and green (Hariyali = greenery). The festival is dedicated to feminine power, the strength of devotion, and the sanctity of the marital bond. In Rajasthan, Teej marks the formal arrival of the monsoon and is celebrated with royal processions of the Teej Mata idol.
Parvati had been devoted to Shiva since childhood — recognizing him as her eternal companion. When Himavat (her father, the Himalaya) proposed her marriage to Vishnu, she refused — only Shiva would do. She undertook severe penance in the forest: standing on one foot in summer heat, remaining submerged in cold water in winter, eating only leaves in the monsoon. For 3,000 years she performed tapasya. Shiva, pleased with her single-pointed devotion, accepted her and their wedding is celebrated as Mahashivratri. Teej celebrates the fruits of this devotion — the monsoon rains that arrive each year as a reminder that sincere devotion is always rewarded.

Vedic Astrology & Hariyali Teej
Hariyali Teej falls on Shravan Tritiya — when the Moon is waxing and the monsoon energy is at full strength. Shravan is the most sacred month for Shiva worship. The Tritiya tithi is associated with Lakshmi and auspicious beginnings. Women who observe Teej fast sincerely are said to receive Parvati's blessing for a strong, devoted marriage — a claim rooted in the idea that emulating Parvati's devotion activates Venus and Moon energies that support loving relationships.
