Purnima
Purnima is the full moon day — the 15th tithi of Shukla Paksha. It is the most auspicious regular tithi for Vishnu worship, Satyanarayan Puja, and Guru Purnima. The full moon amplifies emotions, healing, and spiritual energy. Fasting on Purnima is said to be equivalent to fasting on all 30 tithis combined.
Significance of Purnima
Purnima is when the Moon is fully illuminated — at maximum spiritual and emotional potency. All 12 Purnimas of the year carry distinct names and significances tied to the month. Buddha Purnima (Vaishakha) marks the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana. Guru Purnima (Ashadha) honors the Guru. Sharad Purnima (Ashwin) is when the Moon is closest to Earth — moonlight on this night is said to carry healing and nourishment (Amrit). The Devi Mahatmyam records that the goddess Durga was specifically invoked on Ashwin Purnima.

Vedic Astrology & Purnima
Purnima marks the Sun-Moon opposition — maximum tension between the solar (ego, ambition) and lunar (emotion, instinct) principles. Spiritually, this tension is transformed into illumination through ritual and devotion. The full moon amplifies whatever is already active in the mind — making meditation and mantra practice especially potent but also making uncontrolled emotions more volatile.
