History and Origin of Durga Aarti
Durga Aarti (Jai Ambe Gauri) is the standard closing prayer for Durga Puja across North India. It describes Goddess Durga's divine form in detail — her golden-to-dark complexion representing her two aspects (Gauri = fair/peaceful; Shyama = dark/fierce), her lion vehicle, her weaponry (sword and skull-bowl), and the brilliant radiance of her moon-and-sun-like luminosity.
The two-color description of Durga in verse 1 (Gauri — fair, and Shyama — dark) reflects the classical understanding of Durga's dual nature: Gauri is the benevolent mother who provides and nurtures; Kali (Shyama) is the fierce destroyer who protects. The Durga Aarti integrates both aspects, establishing that the same Goddess encompasses both creation and destruction.
How to Recite Durga Aarti — Correct Practice
Durga Aarti reaches its peak practice during Navratri. The nine-night sequence builds toward Ashtami and Navami, the two most powerful nights — when many temples perform the Aarti continuously from sunset to midnight. In home practice, the sequence is: clean the altar, light incense and a ghee lamp, offer red flowers (preferably lotus), recite the Durga Chalisa, then perform the Aarti with the circling lamp, and close with Pranam. The complete session takes 15–20 minutes.

Durga Aarti as a Vedic Astrology Remedy
The Durga Aarti amplifies the Rahu-remedy and enemy-protection aspects of the Durga Chalisa when performed together. The fire element of the Aarti is particularly powerful for Rahu remedy — Rahu is associated with smoke, fog, and illusion, while fire cuts through all three. Performing the Aarti on Fridays and during Navratri builds a sustained Rahu-protective relationship that grows stronger over months of consistent practice.
