Chaitra Navratri 2026 — Key Details
Chaitra Navratri begins on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada — 30 Mar 2025, 19 Mar 2026. It ends with Ram Navami on the 9th day. This spring Navratri is observed with fasting, Durga worship, and celebration of Rama's birth.
Chaitra Navratri 2026 — Significance & Celebration
Chaitra Navratri marks the Hindu New Year (Ugadi/Gudi Padwa) and runs through Ram Navami on Day 9. It is sometimes called Ram Navratri because it culminates in the birth celebration of Lord Rama. While Shardiya Navratri (autumn) is more widely celebrated, Chaitra Navratri holds special significance in North India and among Vaishnavite communities. The same 9 forms of Durga are worshipped as in Shardiya Navratri, but the energy is one of new beginnings, purification, and setting intentions for the year ahead.
Chaitra is the first month of the Hindu year. The Chaitra Navratri begins at the moment when spring is fully established — the Sun is in Aries (Mesh), the first sign, and the moon waxes toward full. According to Valmiki Ramayana, Lord Rama was born on Chaitra Shukla Navami to Queen Kaushalya and King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. The sage Vishwamitra had instructed Rama in the use of divine weapons (astras) before the birth. Chaitra Navratri is thus both a goddess festival and a preparation for celebrating the most righteous king of the Treta Yuga.

Vedic Astrology & Chaitra Navratri
Chaitra Navratri begins when the Sun moves into Aries — its sign of exaltation (uccha). The Sun's energy is at its strongest, making this a powerful time for new ventures, health rituals, and prayers for vitality. The waxing Moon of Shukla Paksha amplifies the growth energy. Worshipping Durga during Chaitra Navratri is said to remove obstacles placed by malefic Mars and Rahu.
