The Kuber-Lakshmi arrival: On Kartik Krishna Trayodashi, both Kuber (lord of wealth, treasurer of the gods) and Lakshmi (goddess of prosperity) are believed to traverse the earth together — the only night they visit households simultaneously. Homes lit with lamps attract their combined presence; new gold, silver, and utensils become vessels for their blessings.

The Dhanvantari origin: Dhanteras is also called Dhanvantari Trayodashi because this is the day Dhanvantari — the physician of the gods and lord of Ayurveda — emerged from the ocean during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean) carrying the pot of amrit (immortal nectar). Dhanvantari holds the pot of nectar and a copy of the Ayurveda — making Dhanteras the festival of both wealth (dhan) and health. Classical prescriptions for auspicious Dhanteras purchases:

Family members gather at the doorway, face south, and observe silence for a moment after lighting — the moment of Yama propitiation.

Dhanvantari — the god of medicine and Ayurveda — emerged from the Samudra Manthan on Kartik Krishna Trayodashi. He is worshipped specifically by:

• Those seeking healing from chronic illness
